Pass 1: Review and Select

After downloading a batch of generated clips, do a first pass where you only judge keep vs reject. No editing yet. Watch each clip at 1.5x speed and move keepers to a Selects folder. Most batches have 20-40% usable clips. The goal of this pass is to eliminate junk fast so you are only editing the clips that have a chance of making it into the final video.

Pass 2: Rough Assembly

Drop your selected clips into CapCut or your editing tool in the rough order you want them. Do not trim yet. Just establish the sequence and flow. At this stage you are making a story decision, not an editing decision. Does the video have a beginning, middle, and end? Does each clip lead naturally to the next? If the story is wrong, trim will not fix it.

Pass 3: Music First, Then Fine Cut

Add your music track before you do the fine cut. Music determines pacing. Once the track is in place, trim your clips to match the music's beats and energy shifts. Cuts on the beat feel intentional. Cuts that ignore the beat feel random. This is the single biggest quality difference between amateur and professional-looking AI video.

Pass 4: Captions, Color, Export

Add captions if the video has narration or text (CapCut's auto-caption is good enough for most use cases). Do a basic color grade if needed - AI video often benefits from a slight warm push or contrast boost to look more cinematic. Then export in the right spec for each platform: 9:16 for TikTok and Reels, 16:9 for YouTube, square for LinkedIn.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a powerful computer to edit AI video?

For CapCut on social-length clips (15-60 seconds), a mid-range laptop from the last 4 years is sufficient. For DaVinci Resolve with longer projects, more RAM and a dedicated GPU help but are not required for basic editing.

How long should an AI social video be?

For TikTok and Instagram Reels, 15-30 seconds performs best for new accounts. Once you have an established audience, 45-90 second videos can perform well. YouTube Shorts max is 60 seconds. YouTube long-form is whatever length serves the content.

Should I add text overlays to every AI video?

For platforms where users watch without sound (most social browsing), yes. A text hook in the first 3 seconds and readable key points throughout dramatically increase completion rate for non-audio viewers. For cinematic showcase clips where visuals are the point, text can distract.

What is the best free music source for AI video content?

YouTube Audio Library has free, commercially usable tracks. Pixabay Music is another free option. For client work where commercial licensing matters, use a paid service like Epidemic Sound.
